Nike Unveils a lot of 2018 BETRUE Collection
Nike’s 2018 BETRUE collection has been officially unveiled; it highlights the color lavender and the pink triangle on fan-favorite silhouettes.
Every year, Nike celebrates colors and symbols reclaimed by the LGBTQ+ community and applies those themes to some of its top-tier footwear models. This year, the collection includes four sneakers: the Nike Air VaporMax Plus, Air Max 270, Zoom Fly SP, and Epic React Flyknit.
According to Nike, lavender — a blend of historically gendered light blue and light pink — has been one of the oldest symbolic references in LGBTQ culture, and precedes the rainbow symbol that became popular in the 1970s. The hue is featured on all four products in the 2018 BETRUE collection.
To add a unique touch, the VaporMax Plus and Nike Air Max 270 airbags have been individually dyed in the six-color spectrum of the traditional rainbow. (This will be the most limited release yet for the AM270.) Even the Zoom Fly SP — which, according to Nike, is a “lifestyle take on a racing shoe” — features a muted rainbow within the shoe’s translucent upper.
The pink triangle is also highlighted in this year’s BETRUE collection. In Nazi Germany, the pink triangle was used to identify homosexual prisoners during WWII. However, in the 1970s pro-gay activists reclaimed the triangle, which was used by the AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power (ACT UP) in the historic “Silence=Death” campaign of the 1980s, according to Nike.
While no pricing information for any of the silhouettes has been announced, the 2018 Nike BETRUE collection will launch alongside T-shirts, socks, a hat, and a heritage hip pack on June 6. Expect the products to release via jordans2019cheap.com and select retailers globally.
